example: AFD 280E Fry Racker - The store phone the office with a few jobs to call-out for and one of them is their fry racker, intermittently dropping fries without a basket present.
You attend site and check it out, lo and behold there is a pile of fries sitting on the floor of the machine where the doors have opened prematurely. You check the sensors out, and they are fine, the windows are ok and fitted (!) and when testing for normal operation, you cannot find a fault with it. You write your sheet and leave site, thinking that it must have been a glich.
Next day the store phone up again and say that the fry racker is still performing the same fault every now and then. You re-attend with a pcb and software and after re-checking everything, you fit the pcb and software because it seems to the problem. Again you leave site and head for home...
Next day the store phone again (now quite irate that the problem is still there). You go AGAIN and this time you contact the manufacturer in the states for some technical advise. After a couple of hours of performing software routines in the back of the unit, the manufacturer gets you to check whether the accumulator door motor is over-running at the end of each cycle. And yes it is. There is your problem.
Basically, if the accumulator door motor over-runs then the cam switch is depressed after each opening of the doors. In normal operation, this is not a problem. The only time a problem occurs causing the doors to open prematurely is if the reset button has to be pressed, ie a no-fry situation or an error 5 etc. Because the switch is depressed, then the controller thinks that the doors are open and the first thing it does after the reset button is pressed is to close the accumulator doors!! To close the doors, the cam must travel through 360 degrees back to the flat on the shaft. If there are fries on the doors, they end up on the bottom of the unit.
A quick test that can be performed by a member of staff or yourselves when on site is to perform an error 5 - remove the lowering basket from the slide before it passes the bottom sensor. This will cause the reset switch to flash madly. When pressed, if the doors open and close before anything else, without a basket underneath them then the unit requires an accumulator door motor. If the doors do not open immediately after pressing the switch, then the unit may have nothing wrong with it.
NB The new software for the AFD 280 E and AFD 280 U contains a 1lb AND a 2lb calibration routine, even for units not with NCWS installed.
